Tyler is a high school student in California. He was interviewed by a fellow student, Luke, as part of a #schoolpartnership #studentvoice project with REENVISIONED, in which students interview each other and adults in their lives, and reflect together on school and what makes a good life.
Tell me about yourself.
I'm friendly and outgoing, I like to be adventurous.
Now, imagine you're all grown up let's say you're thirty, what are three essential things you would think it would make a good life?
Definitely having a stable income, definitely a house and a college education.
How would you like school to ideally help you get to that good life?
Just like you know, kind of keeping track of your grades and your progress and to keep on motivating me.
Do you think that this school will do that for you? Why or why not?
I mean they definitely are doing it for me. But I think since there's so many people and this is such a small school compared to other schools so it might not work for everyone because other schools can't just like keep track of everybody at once.
Will your school play that role for all students in the school? If not why not?
I mean they're definitely gonna try to but like I said earlier there's so many kids so they won't be able to do it all at once.
Why do you think we have schools as a society?
Definitely to increase our knowledge, our well being,and just everything around us. You know – to allow us to improve our skills and learning.
What you think is the most important thing you're learning in school?
Probably the values that you take from everything.
Who is your favorite teacher until now why?
To be honest, I don't really have any favorites.
Can you tell me about a time when you learned something and it felt really good and empowering, like you just wanted to keep learning more? This doesn't have to be in school, it could be outside of school or after you finished.
I don't know like I think a lot of people like struggle with math and I think when you start to understand what you're learning, just it really makes you feel good and you just want to keep learning about it.
